Conflict in Eastern Europe – Travel insurance policies suspended

We have suspended the issuing of new policies and cover to Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine with effect from 17 March 2022. All policies issued will be endorsed to exclude cover to these countries.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update the market accordingly. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this conflict.

Travel supplier and travel wholesaler insolvency cover

When a travel supplier or travel wholesaler declares insolvency we either refund you for the portion of your loss that you will not be refunded by the travel supplier or travel wholesaler if the insured journey is cancelled before the start date, OR the extra costs you incur to return to South Africa if the insured journey is cut short because of the insolvency of your travel supplier or travel wholesaler.

 

It is important to note, that if you buy a travel insurance policy after the travel supplier or travel wholesaler applied for business rescue, administration, or a similar legal process, we do not provide cover.

 

We do not pay for the insolvency of any travel agent, tour operator, tour organiser, booking agent or consolidator responsible for booking your travel or accommodation; or any third party who is not a travel supplier or travel wholesaler.

  • Do you have specific medical conditions that are not covered by an existing policy, including any pre-existing conditions?
  • Will you be taking part in any sports, hazardous activities or adventure sports?
  • Is there a possibility that you may need to cancel or delay your trip?
  • Would you like cover for inconvenience benefits such as loss or theft of baggage?
  • Purchased cover will only apply if a policy was bought before the actual departure date from your country of residence, no cover will apply if a policy was bought after the actual departure date from your country of residence.

Business - you are travelling for business and not for holiday. You may include some holiday days in your business trip. It may however not be more than 50% of your entire insured journey.

The country you live in and regard as your your permanent home. If you are a temporary resident, have citizenship, a work permit or have been living in the country for more than 12 consecutive months, it will be deemed your country of residence for the purpose of this policy.

Departure date

The date you depart from your country residence. If you already departed your country of residence and is on your journey, your policy will not respond to any claims. cover will NOT apply if you are already on your international journey.
